DEFINITION
Basic salary is contractual pay before extras. Gross salary adds overtime, allowances and commissions on top. Both are shown before employee CPF and exclude bonuses and employer CPF. Salary benchmarks use these to describe market pay — a reference, not a determination of what a role must pay.
